Cormar Carpets
Cormar Carpets is Europe’s largest privately owned carpet factory with 250,000M2 of floor area and 22 x 4M looms.
OPUS was contacted to replace an aging factory Public Address System that had one reception microphone and a mixture of old speakers. The task was to provide communication from the machine shop looms, offices and telephone system and be broadcast throughout the factory.
Following a feasibility study it was found the down time of a loom operator looking for an engineer in such a large factory was too significant and a cost effective method of staff location was needed.
OPUS designed a bespoke microphone plate with lockout circuitry which enables the loom operator to access the Public Address System via a ‘store and forward’ system. This ensures other users can not access this recorder system which prevents feedback when a speaker is near the microphone source. The device records a message and broadcasts it once the ‘press to talk button’ is released.
2 x 10 channel Jedia mixers controlling 17 microphones with telephone interface (from another factory some 4 miles away) is linked to a Phonic commercial 600w amplifier. New fire retardant cabling throughout and new TOA horn speakers completed the system for clear un-ambiguous messages.
